In preparation for the 2010 Wimbledon Grand Slam, top players are getting their practice in at the Aegon Championships in London, and the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany – both on grass courts.

Aegon Championship Updates

At the Aegon Championships today (June 10th), Nadal took down Denis Istomin (72 world ranking, 16 seed) in three sets (7-6, 4-6, 6-4). A tight first set and loss in the second set were surprising for Nadal, but it should help prepare him for tougher grass court matches to come.

More results from Aegon Championships:

  • Feliciano Lopez beat Julien Benneteau in straight sets (6-2, 6-4).
  • Xavier Malisse got a surprising win over Novak Djokovic in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).
  • Michael Llodra got a 7-6, 6-2 win over Marin Cilic.
  • Andy Roddick lost to Dudi Sela (6-4, 7-6). This is clearly a disappointing loss for Roddick.
  • Same Querrey was able to get past Marcel Granollers (6-4, 7-6).

Gerry Weber Open Updates

In the second round of the Gerry Weber Open, Roger Federer did what he was expected to today. He destroyed Columbian Alejandro Fall in two easy sets (6-1, 6-2) in under 52 minutes.

More results from the Gerry Weber Open:

  • Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Marco Chiudinelli (6-4, 7-5).
  • Mischa Zverev got a big win over Jurgen Melzer in three sets (3-6, 7-6, 7-6).
  • Benjamin Becker also grabbed himself some confidence with a nice win over Nikolay Davydenko (6-3, 6-4).

We’ll be adding some women’s grass court updates shortly.
